How to Shorten Jet Lag from a Business Trip

Business Trip

As a businessman, it is only routine to go on a business trip every once in a while.

Going abroad, after all, opens you up to a lot of opportunities. You can meet new people, whom you can convert into business partners in the future.

However, flying long distances can have a debilitating effect on the body. One of these is jet lag. Jet lag means your body is temporarily unable to sync with the new time zone it is in.

Luckily, jet lag disappears after a few days as you adjust. For businessmen, however, it’s important that you get to align your body clock with the local time zone as soon as possible.

Here are some ways that you can shorten jet lag and resume normal circadian rhythms as soon as possible after a business trip.

Try to Sync Yourself While on the Flight

You can start by synching yourself with the local time zone while on the flight enroute to your destination.

You can do this by trying to stay awake on the hours that are daylight in the country you’re flying to. As soon as the flight begins, set your wristwatch to the time zone you will be living in for the next few days.

It’s going to be tricky and takes a lot of willpower. At the end of the flight, if you’re successful, you can train your body to shake off jet lag in just 24 to 48 hours after arriving.

You can also take it to the next level by already syching yourself to the local time a couple of days before flying.

Engage in Plenty of Activities As Soon as You Arrive

Conquering jet lag is simply getting your body tired enough to sleep on times that the locals do.

When you arrive, try to sleep as close to local nighttime as you can. Keep yourself engaged with activities the first few hours after you arrive. You can take some naps if you want, but don’t doze off for 8 hours.

Get into meetings as you can after arriving. Take some coffee to keep yourself awake. If you prefer to rest at the hotel, doing some exercises at the gym or getting some massage at night time can help you relax and fall asleep.

Read and Enjoy a Book

Take jet lag as an opportunity to read some books. Reading is a great way to engage and relax the mind.

So, make sure to bring some paperback books with you on your next business trip.

It’s worth noting that computers and mobile gadgets have the opposite effect. The blue rays they emit can stress the eyes and cause the mind to be more active. You won’t be able to fall asleep early if you pass the time in front of these gadgets.

Beating jet lag is not really that difficult. However, it does take a lot of physical energy, mindpower and determination.

It’s a great discipline to get used to especially if you’re a frequent flyer.
